Robust variable speed limit control with respect to uncertainties

The Cell Transmission Model (CTM) has been widely used to design variable speed limit (VSL) controllers. Since the CTM is an idealization of actual traffic flow, issue robustness VSL with respect uncertainties such as disturbances due modeling and measurement errors important problem. In this paper, we modify include a constant disturbance term that unknown could change over time. stability properties modified open-loop are analyzed motivate robust controller. controller designed reject external disturbances, which large intervals time, while guaranteeing density converges desired equilibrium state corresponding high flow speed. Microscopic simulations based on commercial software VISSIM demonstrate effectiveness proposed associated benefits for scenarios along segment I-710 in Southern California.
